Lutindi Mental Hospital is a private mental health facility in the scenic Usambara Mountains of Tanzania. Most patients are from the big cities and are addicted to alcohol or illegal drugs, or have schizophrenia or psychosis. Much emphasis is placed on occupational therapy in a rural setting that differs as much as possible from the big city.
With us you have the opportunity to support two different hospitals in Arusha. You can get insights into the Tanzanian health system, which is different from what you know from home. Most Tanzanians have no health insurance and consequently little access to good medical care. Your help is needed here!
Morocco has a health system that is of good quality, but not all sections of the population have access to it. Non-profit institutions and private hospitals often offer free basic care for the particularly needy. Students can complete nursing internships and clinical electives, and healthcare professionals can do voluntary work.
We can arrange medical elective placements, nursing or pre-medical internships, internships in therapy, midwifery etc. as well as Final Year Rotations and volunteer placements for health care professionals in the above mentioned fields at various locations in Tanzania. You will gain first hand experience in medicine and health care in another cultural environment.
The projects help to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents with mental and physical disabilities and their families. They provide educational opportunities as well as various therapy services. Volunteer placements are possible in the areas of special education, remedial education as well as in physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
