The soccer project
The soccer project in Zanzibar is run by an NGO that enables street children to play soccer and receive support at the same time. Through soccer, all participants learn discipline and teamwork and develop motivation that can help them achieve greater goals in life.
Unfortunately, the project is generally poorly equipped. Donations of jerseys and similar items are therefore always welcome. The entire site consists of the soccer field and a small storage room for the necessary equipment. However, the field is in fairly good condition.
The team consists of 40 players, but no more than 25 train at the same time. The project is led by a coach who is supported by up to five assistant coaches and volunteers.
Your daily routine
You will usually work from Tuesday to Sunday. Training takes place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and tournaments, which take place 3 to 4 times a week, are normally from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, your working hours as a volunteer are relatively flexible and you do not have to help out every day. It is best to talk to your colleagues on site.
Basically, you will assist the coach in leading various warm-up exercises and conduct exercises to improve endurance, strength, and playing techniques. It is important that you pay close attention and help each participant improve their skills.
Your free time in Zanzibar
Zanzibar offers beautiful beaches, fragrant spice plantations and the historic Stone Town - ideal for exploring and relaxing. A highlight is the included day trip to Nakupenda sandbank with swimming, a picnic and a campfire at sunset.
