Volunteering in a hospital in Sri Lanka

About the hospital project
In this medical internship, you will gain valuable insights into the Sri Lankan healthcare system, both in a state teaching hospital in Wattala and in a modern private clinic in the coastal city of Galle. The project is suitable as a pre-internship, nursing internship and for clinical traineeships.

Your tasks in the project
Your tasks in the hospital will depend on the type of training you have and the needs on site. You will get to know different departments, accompany experienced professionals and experience patient care from diagnosis to treatment. You will work at both locations – for example, three weeks in Wattala and one week in Galle for a four-week placement.

Your daily routine in the project
In general, you will work at least four hours a day in shifts at the hospital from Monday to Friday. The exact working hours will be agreed with you on site.

Your free time in Wattala & Galle
Wattala is not far from Colombo and offers you the best of both worlds: city life and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Highlights such as the Talangama Wetland and the capital Colombo are within easy reach.

Galle scores with colonial flair, charming alleys in the Dutch Fort and beautiful beaches such as Unawatuna or Jungle Beach – perfect for relaxing, surfing or strolling.
