The Healthcare Support project places volunteers in local clinics in Cusco, where they assist medical professionals and gain valuable exposure to healthcare practices in Peru. This experience allows participants to better understand how local health services operate while contributing to the daily functioning of community clinics.
Volunteers primarily support nurses and administrative staff. Tasks may include helping with patient intake, preparing materials for consultations, organizing basic documentation, and taking simple measurements such as height and weight. In addition to these responsibilities, volunteers have the opportunity to shadow doctors and nurses, observe patient consultations, and learn about local medical protocols, procedures, and working methods within the Peruvian healthcare system.
The level of responsibility depends largely on your Spanish language skills, medical background, and overall attitude. In a medical environment, trust and professionalism are essential. Volunteers are expected to communicate respectfully with staff and patients, observe carefully, follow instructions, and gradually take on more responsibilities as confidence and trust are built over time.
This project is ideal for students or individuals with an interest in healthcare, medicine, nursing, or public health who are seeking meaningful international exposure while supporting local health services in a practical and educational setting.
