Do you want to gain experience in social work? Unfortunately, there are many children in Tanzania who need support. Fortunately, there are various organizations that advocate for these children. You can get involved as a volunteer or intern with one of these organizations in the fields of social work and education. The placement is unpaid, but you will grow personally from this challenge and directly support the children.

You can work in one of two Community-Outreach organizations. The first operates a Community Center which is used as a kindergarten, informal school, and leisure meeting point. The children receive free lessons and are engaged in meaningful leisure activities, such as music or sports. The second organization also offers a day care project where children have access to free early childhood education. Both organizations also run an outreach program, which supports families, orphans, or marginalized women through home visits. Many of those affected are HIV-positive. The social workers offer emotional and practical support. They also sometimes involve local communities. In the "We Care Project," community health workers are trained to support people with chronic illnesses and to be active in disease prevention. Another program is a self-help group for women, which encourages the sharing of skills and experiences.

Your tasks as a volunteer or intern can be varied and depend on the organization. You can participate in the kindergarten or teach yourself, or support the teachers in early childhood education. You can also get involved in leisure activities and, if necessary, even lead your own workshops. It is also possible to participate in the outreach program. Basic knowledge of Kiswahili is often very helpful here. In the "We Care Project," you can help with the organization and implementation of health seminars on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention. There is also the possibility of supporting the organizations with administrative tasks.
