Empower vulnerable men and women in Arusha, North Tanzania

Pays d’action: Tanzanie, Afrique
Type d’activité: Missions humanitaires, en faveur d‘enfants et de jeunes, en faveur de femmes
Women and former street children experience different types of violence and stigmatization in Tanzanian society. With us you have the opportunity to support these people and to enable them to have a better life. In our empowerment projects, you work with a women's shelter, sewing, fashion or agriculture projects, as well as an HIV / AIDS and widow's project.

Description du projet et du rôle des volontaires

In the women's shelter, over 50 girls and women are cared for. They came to escape poverty, homelessness and other dangerous living conditions, they were forcibly married, victims of human trafficking, domestic violence and were physically or sexually abused.
To finance the women's shelter, a hairdressing salon, a recording studio and a sewing workshop are operated. In addition of working there, you can teach English, maths and computer skills, provide tutoring, launch an afternoon program, provide health and education services, do administrative work, help with website development and marketing, do fundraising and much more.

The second project is a fashion project in which women make various products such as scarves, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. to get their own fair income and to support the community in their area. Here you can mainly work in the area of marketing and product development, give English and computer lessons, and help with the completion of the products.

The third project looks after former street children and young people by training them to become seamstresses and farmer. Many of the women and men have had experiences with prostitution, violence, drugs and homelessness. Various products are sewn, such as handbags, pillowcases and clothing. On there on land they grow beans, cucumbers, green peppers and saroo, a local vegetable. You can create a website, do fundraising, help with the agricultural and sewing projects, give English and computer lessons, as well as engage in product development, the creation of new designs and marketing.

Our fourth project is an empowerment project for widows and people living with HIV / AIDS. These people are also particularly vulnerable and marginalized in Tanzania. Here, people get the opportunity to be trained and earn an income. You can work in the areas of marketing, business training, health education, education for children and fundraising.

Supports our projects and helps us to improve the situation of disadvantaged Tanzanians. You can experience the effects and changes that your work causes, depending on the length of your stay. Either way, you will make your contribution to improving the lives of people and have a great time.
