Are you interested in social work in Zanzibar and want to make a meaningful contribution? Then support one of these projects:
Family Support Program
Here, a non-profit foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. You'll typically go into families in the afternoons with local staff to help children with their homework and teach them English and math. You can also make observations about the family situation and discuss them with a social worker to find solutions together.
Transition House
The Transition House offers young adults who come from state orphanages a safe home and support for independent living. As a mentor, you'll spend time with the residents and support them in activities that promote their independence. You can also assist with administrative tasks, communication, and fundraising. The foundation also arranges vocational training and offers programs for women's empowerment. There's a one-time additional contribution of 100 EUR.
Afternoon Care in the Children's Home
With this project, you'll live in a family-like environment with children aged 6 to 18 who come from difficult circumstances. You'll help the children with homework, provide tutoring, and organize leisure activities. You can often also assist with the hospitality and catering training program and support the director with administration and management. The foundation also operates an education and networking platform for vocational training and a scholarship program.
Training Clubs and Teaching
A foundation here offers practical learning opportunities for children and young people from poorer families in their Community Academy, usually from 4 PM to 9 PM. You can join ongoing courses for English or other languages and support local teachers. If you want to teach another foreign language, you should commit for at least 4 weeks. You can also get involved in the clubs for young people and young adults by imparting specialized knowledge in areas like bicycle repair, electrical appliance repair, agriculture, business skills, or in the Girl's Club. Support for the organization's administration is often possible as well.
