Many schoolchildren in the region have limited access to educational opportunities. As a volunteer, you will support children aged 6 to 16 in learning English using creative, playful methods that strengthen their motivation and self-confidence. Cultural exchange also plays an important role: your commitment will help break down prejudices and open up new perspectives.
During school hours, you will assist in the classroom, prepare short lessons or games, and encourage the children to participate. During the summer holidays, you will join other volunteers at summer camps in the surrounding villages.
It would be great if you could create a portfolio with printed pictures about yourself and bring it with you to hand out to the children while you tell them about your life story, your country and your culture, etc. School usually starts at 8 a.m. and ends no later than 2:30 p.m. During this time, you will be working at the school. You will also need to prepare for your lessons, which should normally take one to two hours per day.
According to legend, the famous Count Dracula lived in Bran Castle in Romania. It is still open to visitors today. You can also go on long hikes in the Carpathian Mountains. In the capital city of Bucharest, you can marvel at the gigantic Palace of the Parliament. As a special highlight, you can visit an underground amusement park called Salina Turda. Train tickets are relatively inexpensive and allow you to travel around the country easily, so weekend trips with other participants are a great option. The team on site will be happy to give you tips.
