About the project in Bali
The school offers children free English lessons as well as courses in agriculture, programming and ‘local wisdom’. The aim is to open up global perspectives for the children without losing sight of Balinese culture. Currently, 150 children between the ages of 8 and 18 attend the school. Lessons take place in local ‘bamboo classrooms’ on the floor, in small groups of no more than 15 children. Due to increasing tourism, good English is an important key to further career opportunities.
Your tasks in the project
You will support English lessons and help the children with their speaking skills in particular. Through games and exercises, you will strengthen their language skills and promote their thinking, perspectives and behaviour. If you have other strengths, such as IT, you can support and share your knowledge in this area.
Your daily routine in Bali
You will prepare lessons, support three classes a day for 1.5 hours (alone or in a team) and also help to organise creative activities. Classes are held Monday to Thursday, six hours a day.
Make the most of your time in Bali
After work, you can explore markets, beach clubs or the nearby beach (15 minutes' walk away), learn to surf or spend the day with other volunteers. On weekends, there are various activities such as cooking, dance or yoga classes, which you can participate in free of charge. You can also plan trips to temples such as Pura Tanah Lot or to Denpasar. The team on site will be happy to help you with the organisation. The team also offers free trips to a local market (once a week) and to Ubud (twice a week).
