Many people living in rural areas of Tanzania are unable to obtain even small amounts of money in the form of bank loans due to the lack of collateral. This is one of the greatest obstacles to development in the region. So-called "Village Community Banks" (short "VICOBAs"), are committed to helping these people to achieve greater financial stability and economic independence by managing available funds within a group or village community themselves and distributing them as microcredits.

Each group consists of 25 to 30 members who live in the same village or district. Membership is not limited to women, but around 95 percent of the members in the Kilimanjaro region are women.

NGOs that have finance professionals advise Vicoba groups on managing their finances and with the development of business activities.

As an intern, you should have a background in one of the areas of finance, accounting, management, entrepreneurship or other related work areas.

Work areas and fields of activity for online interns include the preparation of workshops and presentations, support in the development of business plans, strategy development, development of conflict management strategies within the groups, marketing, administration, evaluations etc.

As an intern you can expect a variety of tasks! With this online internship you do not travel to Tanzania yourself, but communicate with your internship supervisor abroad via Skype / Google Meets / Whatsapp .

You can decide how many hours per week you want to do the remote internship (6-40 hours per week are possible). This includes the time you work on tasks that your internship supervisor gives you as well as the time you communicate online (usually 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours). Any duration from 2 weeks to 6 months is possible.

Prior to the start of the internship, there will be an online meeting in which you will first receive a cultural briefing on the Tanzanian work environment and then you will discuss the gaims of your internship, your exact tasks and your work schedule with your internship supervisor.
