Volunteering project: Nature conservation
Experience the nature of the Seychelles: Monitor endangered species, collect data, explore the marine reserve and support the conservation of this tropical ecosystem.
Activities as a volunteer
As a volunteer, you will take part in a variety of projects, including data collection and observation of the underwater world as well as daily beach patrols. Your tasks will also include excavating turtle nests, translocating endangered nests and tagging sea turtles. You will also be involved in the care of young giant tortoises and vegetation rehabilitation.
You will be part of a mission to create a new database of all the island's creatures using ID kits and contribute to the lexicon of Platte Island's creatures. During your time on the project, you will spend a lot of time in the water, which is ideal due to the low current. Du wirst zum Schnorcheln eingesetzt, um junge Schildkröten und ihren Lebensraum zu überwachen. Dafür wirst Du mit einer Kamera und weiterer Ausrüstung ausgestattet.
Requirements for joining the project
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in the conservation and ecology of tropical flora and fauna. Volunteers for our Platte Island project should be able to learn quickly and be prepared to work independently in the field after just a few days of familiarisation. Volunteers should also be prepared to work in high temperatures between 30 and 35 °C and high humidity at certain times of the year.
