Botswana’s Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s last true wildernesses

If you're passionate about wildlife and adventure, the Okavango Delta in Botswana should be at the top of your travel list.

This inspiring place is home to the largest population of elephants on Earth. It is also a vital migration route for zebra and one of the few remaining habitats of the endangered African wild dog.

You will monitor the movement and populations of iconic species, such as lion, giraffe, elephant, wild dog, hippo, crocodile, and more. You'll engage in activities such as tracking and observing wildlife, utilising line transects and GPS equipment to gather data on animal sightings and their habitats. Additionally, camera traps will be set up to monitor elusive species, while surveys will be conducted at waterholes to study wildlife dynamics.

While in the Okavango, you’ll assist in maintaining the camps and will learn essential bushcraft skills needed to survive in the wilderness. You’ll also get to enjoy a game drive through one of Africa’s most biodiverse wildlife reserves - the Moremi Game Reserve.

This experience aligns with the objectives of the Government of Botswana’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) and complies with the standardised wildlife monitoring protocols of the South African Regional Environmental Program (SAREP). It was created with well-known bodies such as the Okavango Research Institute (ORI) and longtime Okavango Delta expert Christiaan Winterbach.

"Coming here, you witness real behind-the-scenes conservation work while spending your time in the genuine wilderness."

L’organisation de volontariat se présente

Since 1999, our organisation has empowered gap year travellers to work hands-on with Africa’s wildlife. As experts in conservation, we’ve helped thousands of volunteers gain skills for their university applications or future careers, all while creating gap year experiences that are anything but tame.

We’ve also supported those that are simply searching for a meaningful wildlife experience instead of the usual safari holiday. We do this by offering a variety of opportunities including being able to volunteer at wildlife care and rehabilitation centres to aid orphaned and injured animals; assist with wildlife conservation management in order to monitor priority species and contribute to vital research; and being able to live the life of an African wildlife vet while meeting the requirements for Extra Mural Studies (EMS) and Animal Husbandry Extra Mural Studies (AHEMS).

Together, we can create a brighter future for Africa’s wildlife.
