Description du projet et du rôle des volontaires

The over 50s All Inclusive Elephant Volunteering programme is a unique opportunity for mature travellers to experience ethical elephant conservation in the heart of South Africa. This supportive and structured trip is designed specifically for volunteers aged 50 and above who want meaningful, hands on work with rescued elephants while enjoying a comfortable and social environment.

Based on the beautiful Garden Route, volunteers join a respected sanctuary that provides lifelong care for elephants that have been removed from riding camps or unsuitable environments. The focus here is on ethical research, observational studies and daily welfare monitoring. There is no riding or performing. Instead, volunteers help gather behavioural data, assist with enrichment, observe feeding habits, monitor movement patterns and support the team with essential sanctuary duties. Everything you do contributes directly to long term welfare and ongoing scientific research.

This programme is ideal for those who want a safe, all inclusive experience. Accommodation is in comfortable volunteer lodges surrounded by nature, with all meals and local transport provided. You will be part of a small group of like minded volunteers in the same age range, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to bond, share stories and enjoy the experience together.

Your days will typically include morning elephant observations, helping prepare enrichment, recording behaviours and participating in informal educational sessions with the sanctuary team. Afternoons often feature conservation activities, nature walks or cultural outings. There is time to relax, enjoy the surroundings or explore the local area with its coastal scenery, wildlife and vibrant markets.

Two programme dates run each year in March and October, making planning simple. Spaces are limited and this trip is popular with solo travellers, couples and friends who want to travel with purpose, meet new people and make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation.

If you are over 50 (or close, we aren't fussy!) and looking for a rewarding, ethical and fully supported elephant volunteering experience, this programme provides an ideal balance of conservation work, comfort and adventure. Booking early is recommended due to high demand. Let us help you plan an unforgettable conservation journey.
