About the project in Thailand
English is an important key to better future opportunities in Thailand – especially for socially disadvantaged children and members of Buddhist monasteries. In Hua Hin, you will volunteer to teach English to children, monks, novices and nuns in a playful way. In this way, you will help them improve their career prospects and promote intercultural exchange. You will work flexibly in small groups, prepare lessons creatively and support the students individually. The project offers you a deep insight into Buddhist culture and an intensive volunteer experience in Thailand.
Your tasks in the project
As a volunteer, you will teach English in Buddhist monasteries and support socially disadvantaged children, monks, novices and nuns. You will design creative and playful lessons and participate in meditation and Dharma discussions. Your daily working hours are usually 2–4 hours, Monday to Friday. Teaching is voluntary, so class sizes and times vary. In some schools, corporal punishment is still used – you will of course teach without a cane and can count on support on site at all times.
Your free time
Hua Hin combines relaxed beaches, Thai culture and modern life. The palm-fringed beaches are ideal for relaxing, snorkelling and beach volleyball. Nature lovers can explore national parks such as Kaeng Krachan or Khao Sam Roi Yot with spectacular caves and animals. Optional cooking classes, temple excursions or Muay Thai lessons are available. Social events and festivals make your volunteer life varied. Depending on how long you stay, excursions are included.
