Many local kids are absent from school due to family circumstances. This project reintegrates them into education, provides a safe space for learning, and builds their confidence through sports, creativity, and connection. As a volunteer, you’ll take part in language workshops, arts and recycling activities, environmental education, IT lessons, and empowerment programs that help young people develop life skills and imagine brighter futures.
In Surf and Community Support invites you to become part of a vibrant island community, where your presence directly supports children and young people facing social and economic challenges.
Sports, especially surfing, play a central role. Water activities teach discipline, teamwork, and resilience, and motivate youth to stay engaged in school. Whether you already surf or skater or a sport person, you’ll support or join sessions that strengthen community bonds and help children discover their own potential.
Environmental protection is present in everything the project does. You’ll participate in clean-ups, recycling festivals, awareness workshops, and even help transform collected plastic into new products through a local social business that supports families and creates economic opportunities.
Your first week includes a Spanish course in Cartagena to help you communicate with the community and immerse more deeply into local life. Once at the project site, you’ll live steps from the sea, surrounded by nature, learning from a culture that values simplicity, solidarity, and joy.
A typical volunteer day starts with surfing from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., followed by breakfast. After that, volunteers have some free time to rest before lunch and the afternoon classes begin. The volunteer activities and community engagement take place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, volunteers are usually free, although some weeks include a morning activity. In total, the program includes about 16 hours of volunteer work per week.
This experience is ideal for volunteers who want meaningful social interaction, authentic cultural immersion, and a chance to contribute to long-term change.
Come share knowledge, learn from inspiring people, and help create real impact in a coastal community full of warmth, resilience, and ocean energy.
