About the stray dog project

You will support a rescue center for stray dogs in Thailand that can take in around 400 dogs. The dogs are taken off the streets, cared for, neutered, and, where possible, rehomed. The welfare of the dogs is always the top priority. Sick or injured dogs also find a place at the shelter and are nursed back to health.

Your tasks in the project

In the stray dog project, the welfare of the dogs is always the top priority. Your tasks at the volunteer site are also geared towards this. You walk them, play with them and groom them. Many of the street dogs at the rescue center are fearful and shy of people due to their history. You help them to slowly get used to people again.

When you're not looking after the dogs, you might be preparing the food or cleaning the site and the enclosures.

Your daily routine in the project

You work on the project from Monday to Friday. The first meeting of the day takes place at 08:30. Everything that is planned for the day ahead is discussed here. From 09:00 to 10:00 there is a leash training session for the adoptable dogs. This is followed by a short coffee break with the other volunteers from 10:00 to 10:30, followed by an extensive walk on the beach until the lunch break.

From 13:00 to 15:00, the dogs are looked after, for example by feeding, bathing and administering medication. Finally, from 15:00 to 16:30, the dogs are walked, the kennels are cleaned and any necessary treatment is carried out.

Your free time in the project

Prachuap Khiri Khan is located on the Gulf of Thailand. The area is known for its laid-back atmosphere, lively night markets and beautiful stalls. Outside of your working hours, you can let off steam and explore the area. If you sign up for the project for 4 weeks or more, you will benefit from weekend excursions included in the program.
