The Horse Ranch project takes place at a family-owned ranch located near Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru. This ranch has been operated by the same local family for more than 30 years, maintaining a strong sense of tradition, continuity, and connection to the surrounding natural environment. The family welcomes volunteers from different backgrounds who are interested in supporting the daily care of horses while also experiencing a slower-paced lifestyle that is closely connected to nature and rural life.
Volunteers help with a variety of everyday ranch responsibilities that are essential to the animals’ well-being and the overall functioning of the property. These tasks include feeding the horses, cleaning and organizing the stables, preparing saddles and other riding equipment, and assisting with the general maintenance of the ranch facilities. Depending on each volunteer’s previous experience, comfort level, and confidence around horses, there may also be opportunities to help guide visitors or support basic riding-related activities. However, horseback riding itself is not guaranteed and should not be considered the main focus of the project.
This program is especially well suited for people who love animals, enjoy spending time outdoors, and feel comfortable with physical, hands-on work. It is also a good fit for those interested in cultural immersion and experiencing daily life in a rural setting. No prior experience with horses is required to participate — what matters most is a willingness to learn, contribute, and maintain a positive and respectful attitude throughout the experience.
