You can get involved at the animal shelter and veterinary clinic in Jaipur, where around 30,000 animals annually, including dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, cows, horses, donkeys, camels, and rabbits, are cared for. A team of 55 staff members takes care of the rescue, treatment, and care of these animals.
Injured street and wild animals are often reported via an emergency hotline and brought for treatment by ambulance. Typical cases for street dogs include, for example, parvovirus or injuries from accidents. There are comprehensive vaccination and sterilization programs for street dogs, and the animal shelter offers special stations for dogs with fractures or skin diseases, as well as a nursing station for puppies and kittens.
There is an adoption and foster program for animals, and wild animals are usually re-released after recovery. A special camel welfare program also supports poor village communities with mobile clinics and a camel rescue center. In addition, pets are treated daily by their owners.
As an intern (for students of veterinary medicine, zoology, biology, or related fields), you support the veterinarians with treatments and the rehabilitation of wild animals.
As a volunteer without specialized knowledge, you help with cleaning the enclosures, as well as feeding and engaging the animals.
All project participants can also accompany the rescue team and assist with administrative tasks, including documentation and fundraising. The roles are unpaid, but they offer you invaluable experience.
