About the project in Chile
The animal shelter has been in existence for over 18 years and provides a safe home for around 150 rescued street dogs. Many of the animals have previously lived in poor conditions. The aim of the project is to give them new confidence through care, medical treatment and lots of attention. As a volunteer, you will support the team in caring for the dogs, help with walks and give them a better life with your attention.
Your tasks in the project
During your volunteer work at the animal shelter, you will take care of the dogs – you will help with feeding, cleaning the kennels and assisting with daily tasks and small repairs. Of course, there will also be plenty of fun: you will play with the dogs, take them for walks and give them lots of attention.
Your daily routine in Chile
Your working day begins at around 9 a.m. with breakfast together. After that, you start looking after and keeping the animals occupied. Work ends at around 2 p.m.
Your free time
Viña del Mar is located directly on the Pacific coast and is one of the most popular cities in Chile. It is also known as the ‘garden city’ because of its numerous parks. Its colonial buildings give it a special charm. The city offers a great mix of culture, nature and beaches: perfect for relaxing and exploring!
In your free time, you can stroll through botanical gardens, visit Castillo Wulff or the famous flower clock. Or you can spend the day at one of the beaches, sunbathing, swimming or surfing. Excursions are also worthwhile: the colourful Valparaiso is right next door, and Santiago de Chile is only 1.5 hours away. Ideal for a weekend in the Andes or the city!
