Conservation in Patagonia to protect Whales and Pumas

The project takes place in the stunning "La Esperanza" wildlife refuge on the Patagonian coast and this is where volunteers live. Majestic silence and wide-open distances. Mara and guanacos by the roadside. Trees bent by the wind. Vast skies and red sunsets, wild land and dark blue sea. The light is beautiful, and the air is clear and fresh. Imagine finding yourself surrounded by nature with its timeless sounds and landscapes.
Join our conservation volunteering placement in Patagonia, Argentina to live in a nature reserve and contribute to the preservation of a unique ecosystem, and especially to work on the protection of whales and pumas.

Conservation volunteering activities in Patagonia

Our conservation volunteering activities in Patagonia are many and diverse. Above all, we are committed to the protection of whales and pumas.
Whales and Pumas

  • Conduct seasonal census of Southern Wright Whales (from June to September)
  • Study the local population and behaviour of Pumas

The Patagonian Ecosystem

  • conduct seasonal census of sea lions,
  • study the local population of guanacos,
  • help with the reintroduction of tortoises,
  • study the way that Mara repopulate areas after natural fires,
  • assist with the maintenance of the reserve.

All this research and other activities are vital to understanding animal behaviour and changes and thus helping with conservation. You will be working with local experts so you will also learn a lot about the whole local environment of flora and fauna!
The best time to see Southern Right Whales is between the end of May and the beginning of December. However, there are loads of animals and things to do anytime.

Whether you plan to study or work in conservation, or just have an interest and willingness to take part in conservation efforts, then this is the project for you! You can add practical experience to your CV and collect a lot of interesting stories to tell during your job interviews.
