About the Eco Village Project
You will work outdoors a lot and learn how to live sustainably. You will support projects related to recycling, reforestation and organic farming. The Eco Village promotes practical knowledge about sustainability and environmental protection. Together, you will help protect nature and implement ecological principles. Experience first-hand how environmental protection works in practice and gain valuable experience for your own life!
Your tasks in the project
As a volunteer, you will work in organic farming in greenhouses, forestry and workshops. You will help with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and packing vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs. In forestry work, you will care for seedlings, water and sort trees. The work varies depending on the season: more outdoors in summer, more indoors in winter.
Your daily routine in Iceland
You will work Monday to Friday, approx. 35 hours per week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break. Lunch is provided in the café, and you will prepare your own breakfast and dinner.
Your free time in Iceland
The south of Iceland is one of the most beautiful regions in the country: mighty waterfalls, hot springs and impressive mountain landscapes await you! On a guided tour, which is part of the programme, you will explore the Golden Circle with the Geysir geothermal area, the Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park! You can also go snorkelling in the Silfra fissure or bathe in the hot river at Reykjadalur. Hiking enthusiasts will be in their element in the colourful Landmannalaugar valley. Reykjavik offers museums, cafés and sights such as the Hallgrimskirkja church and the Harpa opera house.
