The project combines organic farming, education, and community building. At its heart is a permaculture garden spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, which is nourished in part by compost made from collected surplus or expired food. The grounds are also home to animals such as chickens and cows, which are integral to the sustainable cycle. The project aims to demonstrate that agriculture can also be regenerative, community-based, and resource-efficient. At the same time, the garden is a place where people learn from one another, discover sustainable lifestyles, and jointly develop ideas for a more environmentally friendly future.
Your responsibilities in the project are varied. You will help maintain the garden, plant and water, make compost, and assist with daily tasks on the grounds. In addition, depending on the needs, you may clean the chicken coop, monitor egg production, or assist with guided tours of the garden. If you prefer more communicative or creative work, you can also help with community events, courses, social media, or content creation for the café and public relations. It is also possible to help design permaculture lessons for children.
Your first day of work begins with a brief on-site orientation. The work site is just a few minutes’ walk from your accommodation; many volunteers ride a motorcycle or take a motorcycle taxi. Your exact daily routine depends on which area needs your help that day. Most of the time, you’ll be working in the garden or assisting with organizational and creative tasks. Thanks to the variety of activities, your daily routine is very diverse and offers you many insights into sustainable agriculture and community-oriented work.
Make the most of your time on-site
The attractive location in Canggu also offers you numerous opportunities outside of the project: the ocean is nearby, and you can spend your free time at the beach, in cafés, or on excursions in the surrounding area. In your daily project life, you’ll also meet many like-minded people who are equally committed to sustainability, nutrition, and community. This combination of meaningful work, exciting learning experiences, and plenty of leisure time makes the project particularly appealing.
