About this project
Due to educational inequality, many disadvantaged women in Laos have limited access to education. This means that when they search for work, their options are restricted. As a result, women are often vulnerable to the sex trade and exploitation. By volunteering to teach English, you can help women to widen their career options and to grow in confidence.
What will I be doing?
As a volunteer, you will predominantly focus on team teaching women in Luang Prabang, who are at high risk of exploitation. You will team-teach, which means that you will always feel supported. There is a resources room, brimming with lesson plans and activities used by past volunteers. Once a week, you will also get to teach at a local community English centre - a real highlight. Every Friday, volunteer pass on teaching notes to help to maintain consistency across all lessons. You will also receive some training to help you make the most of your time in Laos.
Although you do not complete the full qualification, you will receive basic TEFL training during the project. This helps to develop your teaching skills, increasing the benefits of the volunteering for both you and the students.
