About this project
Laos presents a stunning combination of French architecture and Buddhist temples, a fantastic place to volunteer and explore. Working with the local students, you can gain a unique insight to life in Laos and become part of the community.
In Laos, monasteries offer a permanent home, food and an education to young boys who come from very poor families. These novice monks grow up learning the how to be a Buddhist monk so that at the age of 18, they can choose to remain a monk or to get a job. By teaching novice monks English, you will be opening up their options and providing them with career options.
Other local students are eager to learn English as it expands their career options. Developing conversational skills and written English allows them to improve their resumes and support themselves by finding work.
What would I be doing?
You will team teach with the other volunteers, working together to run sessions. You will have access to a resources room, lesson plans and activities from previous volunteers. You will also receive training once a week on how to make the most out of your teaching experience. This programme is fully supported and you will receive notes from previous volunteers to help keep teaching consistent.
Although you do not complete the full qualification, you will receive basic TEFL training during the project. This helps to develop your teaching skills, increasing the benefits of the volunteering for both you and the students.
