Head to Luang Prabang and volunteer in the local community teaching novice monks and local lay students English.
In Laos, monasteries offer a permanent home, food and an education to young boys who come from very poor families. These novice monks grow up learning the how to be a Buddhist monk so that at the age of 18, they can choose to remain a monk or to get a job. By teaching novice monks English, you will be opening up their options and providing them with career options.
You will team teach and have access to a resources room, full of lesson plans and activities. You will also receive training on how to make the most out of your teaching experience once a week. This programme is fully supported and you will get hand over notes from previous volunteers to help keep teaching consistent.
You will be living in a shared guest house in the centre of Luang Prabang. Delicious, home-cooked Laos food will be provided for you. Spend your weekends and evenings wandering down the French-inspired streets and exploring the many amazing restaurants in the local area. On your weekends, there are many day trips and activities you can take part in. There is so much to see.
