Ecuador: Eco-tourism Internship on a Sustainable Permaculture Farm

Pays d’action: Equateur, Amérique latine et Caraïbes
Type d’activité: Communautés alternatives
Do you have a passion for the tourism industry? Are you interested in and enthusiastic about sustainable food production and lifestyles? Do you want to open the world to visitors in a way that works with nature and not against it? Then our ecotourism internship on a sustainable farm is the right thing for you!

Description du projet et du rôle des volontaires

New knowledge, skills, and experience await you on a sustainable permaculture farm on the coast of Ecuador! The farm hosts several intensive educational workshops and long-term volunteer projects, and welcomes many tourists and visitors throughout the year. They are looking for ecotourism interns to start as soon as possible for a period of up to 7 months. Their main tasks are the care and maintenance of the public areas of the farm, the organisation of guided tours and excursions for farm guests, and acting as the farm guide/host.

And what will the internship give you in return? It offers professional training and development in sustainable agriculture and ecotourism, so it is excellent for your CV. It also includes participation in the farm’s permaculture course (at least one week). You will be able to improve your Spanish (we expect you’ll be nearly fluent by the end of the course) and you will learn a lot about the local culture and permaculture. Of course, it’s also an amazing opportunity to live and work in beautiful Ecuador and gain insight into life in the jungle as well as on the coast.

Tasks during the internship

  • Interpretation aid for the visitors
  • Acting as a "farm host" - attentive and helpful to all visitors and volunteers
  • Recording and remembering all arrivals and departures of tourists, visitors, and volunteers on the farm
  • Booking of tours and providing tourist information
  • Organization of activities for volunteers and tourists
  • Marketing and sale of fair trade goods
  • Maintaining cleanliness of public areas
  • Social networking
  • Revision, writing, and translation of advertising documents and information

In order to be able to perform these tasks successfully, the intern must have a thorough knowledge of all the tours sold on the farm and relevant information for tourists, familiarity with the geography and history of the region, and must learn about the farm and surrounding area and its staff, facilities, and processes. You also have the opportunity to participate in professional permaculture training.
