Details
During your time as a volunteer in our elephant project, you will work in an Elephant Nursery near Lusaka which is part of a fascinating conservation programme that releases orphaned elephants gradually back into the wild. As a volunteer, you will support the dedicated conservation team on site with general elephant husbandry, maintaining the facility, conducting behavioural observations studies, working together with local communities and conservation education.
Furthermore, you may have the chance to perform biodiversity surveys at Lusaka National Park or Lilayi Private Game Reserve to gain a better understanding of the species presence and abundance within the region. Last but not least, educational lectures take place in the Elephant Nursery on a regular basis. You can partake in these to learn more about our partner’s project work, species conservation in Zambia and the overall situation of elephants in Africa.
Note: For ethical reasons, you need to uphold the project’s 'hands-off' policy, wherein only professional employees are allowed direct contact with the elephants.
Accommodation
Throughout your time in the project, you will live on the nursery grounds in your own safari tent and use shared sanitary facilities. The volunteer area furthermore includes a kitchen and a lounge. You and your team will receive food items to prepare your daily meals together.
Become active in a wonderful elephant conservation in Zambia and gain an incomparable insight into the country’s impressive culture, nature and wildlife!
