The facility was founded in 1977 and includes a school (primary and secondary), a day center as well as a living area for children with an IQ below 70.
The kindergarten as well as the primary school are attended by around 10 children between 3-13 who are co-educated there.
There is a group for children below 3 years of age where early childhood intervention programs are conducted.
The secondary school does not have any age limit. Around 70 pupils from the age of 13 years onwards attend the school and learn reading, writing, Maths, English, housework, and simple arts crafts, according to their skills.
The arts and crafts lessons include rug making, screen printing, mechanical skills, making paper art and lampshades, garlands, wrapping paper and greeting cards, producing soaps, candle making, tailoring, glass painting etc. The handicraft products are sold and contribute to financing the facility.
Furthermore, the project offers Yoga lessons as well as linguistic, music, dance and art therapy services. There are indoor and outdoor playing areas.
In the living area, around 30 persons are accommodated.
The facility is run by Italian catholic sisters, whereas the sisters on site are Indian. Most of them have spent a few years at the headquarters of the order in Turin. The sisters have qualifications in special needs education and care and can supervise internships in this field.
It’s the facility’s aim to best possible further and support the children, youth and grown ups at the center and volunteers are there to assist the sisters.
Activities and tasks for volunteers/intern include:
* Individual tutoring
* Assistance with homework and with everyday routines in school
* Development and implementation of creative learning games and methods
* Making posters
* Supervising and assisting with producing crafts and arts
* Playing, dancing, singing, painting etc.
The rates mentioned below apply in case of 1 person and include our service package + accommodation at a single room at a Guest House in Fort Kochi.
L’organisation de volontariat se présente
Nous avons nos propres équipes et divers programmes de volontariat, de stages, de vacances-travail et de langues en Tanzanie, à Zanzibar, en Afrique du Sud, au Maroc, en Israël/Palestine, en Irlande, en Allemagne, au Nicaragua, en Bolivie, en Inde, au Japon et en Corée du Sud.
Nous gérons nos propres camps de protection de l'environnement à plusieurs endroits, où nous menons des activités de protection de l'environnement et d'immersion culturelle sous la direction d'experts.
Pour chaque participant à nos programmes mondiaux, nous plantons 10 arbres indigènes sur le Kilimandjaro pour compenser les émissions de CO2 des vols. Nous gérons également des forêts de bambous à Zanzibar et au Kilimandjaro. Le bambou est un matériau polyvalent à croissance rapide qui n'est pas seulement un excellent puits de carbone, mais peut également remplacer le plastique et le bois dur dans de nombreuses applications.
