In this volunteer project, you work in an animal rescue center that manages animals that have either been injured, neglected or fallen victim to the illegal pet trade. The animal rescue center cares lovingly to rehabilitate the animals again, to take care of them and in the best case to reintroduce them into the wild. The latter is possible only in very rare cases, since most animals are no longer able to survive in the jungle due to permanent impairment or trauma due to captivity in human hands.
You work directly with the animals on site and can experience the magnificent rainforest and exotic wildlife up close. The project cooperates with indigenous native communities of the Amazon rainforest. The surroundings of the sanctuary offer a breathtaking panorama and picture-perfect waterfalls that volunteers often use for a refreshing swim.
The Animal Rescue Station currently provides a safe home for about 70 animals (number subject to variations!), including various species of monkeys, peccary, turtles, coatis, weasels, wildcats and many different species of parrots, birds and reptiles. It is of course all about the welfare of these animals, so the main task of the volunteers is the feeding and care of the animals and the maintenance of the trails. The daily activities include cleaning the cages and enclosures and feeding the animals. Handicrafts are needed to maintain, mend, enlarge, or build new cages, if required.
