Want to join the fight to save the rhino? Volunteering at one of the largest rhino sanctuaries in the world, you’ll be right in the heart of the action. Bottle-feeding orphaned calves, helping injured animals build their strength through exercise and play, and helping to treat injured animals.
Today, Africa’s rhino are being driven to extinction by poachers and, unless something changes, wild rhino will disappear within 10 years. By joining this project, you’ll make a real difference to animals' health and wellbeing.
You’ll also learn new skills and gain experience of animal care, husbandry and wildlife rehabilitation methods. All while assisting dedicated and experienced staff in caring for animals.
Caring for an injured, sick or abandoned animal is a powerful experience, no matter where you are. But in an African sanctuary, surrounded by some of the world's most awe-inspiring wildlife, it can be truly life changing.
So if you’ve always dreamed of working hands-on with wild animals, feel passionate about saving Africa’s rhino, and want to learn from leading conservationists, this is the experience for you.
“What an experience that was! Bottle-feeding baby rhinos was simply amazing. Looking into their eyes, I saw their beautiful souls each and every time. ‘And I get to do this every day for two weeks,’ I thought to myself.”
Since 1999, our organisation has empowered gap year travellers to work hands-on with Africa’s wildlife. As experts in conversation, they’ve helped thousands of volunteers gain skills for their university applications or future careers. All while creating gap year experiences that are anything but tame.
Our organisation closely monitors the impact of the COVID-19 virus on global travel and follows updates from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UK government travel advice, which is the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), and the local government health advice from our operational locations. As a member of the trusted travel brand ABTA, we are able to provide you with up-to-date advice and information on how the virus and government restrictions might affect your travel plans. We continue to keep the health and safety of our travellers, staff and community members at the forefront of all of our decisions.
How are we affected?
We are currently following government guidelines and we are not in our offices. Both our UK and South African staff are working from home providing you with all the usual support and some staff are currently on paid leave until travel picks up again. You can still call and email us during this period, and we would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding if our response time to any queries is not as quick as normal.
We have been around for 20 years and are certain that we will survive this crisis.
