Volunteering on a Farm in Ireland

We arrange volunteer placements on various farms in Ireland. Most of them are cattle and dairy farms with a size of around 50 to 500 cows.

Some farms are mixed farms, i.e. in addition to cows there are also pigs, other farm animals or crops. Due to the climate, there isn't a lot of plant cultivation in Ireland. So anyone who comes to Ireland to gain farming experience should definitely enjoy working with animals!

As a volunteer on an Irish farm, you will be able to involve in a variety of tasks, such as feeding and milking the animals. Many farms will calve during the early spring time, and this is an excellent time for you to get a great experience and learn a lot. If you are lucky, you can be there when a calf is born and welcome it to the farm!

On mixed farms, you can also help care for the other animals or swing yourself on the tractor to go out on the field - for example to repair fences or to bring in the harvest. Every day is a little different here, so you definitely won't get bored!

What are your working hours?

You will work 5 days a week for about 40-45 hours and have 2 days off a week. Since there is always a lot to do on farms, your days off do not necessarily fall on the weekends. If you work on the weekends, you will have days off during the week instead.
